Progress

Dear Mrs. Cline,

I have to admit that this class has challenged me a lot more than I fully anticipated it would. I have had to use different writing styles that I'm not used to,  read a book (and many other things) that I didn't fully understand and struggled with. Take the poem for starters, I have never been a fan of poetry basically because they were hard for me to read and I never really understood them. Not only was I having a hard time with the poems, this is the first time I've ever had to write a literary analysis. Now when I did the little powerpoint presentation I thought that I fully understood what an analysis was. I did good on the paper but it was hard for me. I now fully see where I can do a lot better in that essay for future writings. During that whole writing period I was having the hardest time seeing what I was doing wrong. I was understanding what I was being told, but when I read it I still felt like I was doing it right, but now I understand what I was doing and how to fix it. In the end the poems were getting easier for me to like, but still not my favorite. Frankenstein was very hard for me to read in the beginning. After I got past the first chapter and into the story itself I really started liking it, but don't get me wrong it was still a hard read. I'm new to having to read a book like this for any English class, in high school all I had to read was To Kill A Mockingbird my freshman year and that was a lot easier than Frankenstein that's for sure. Once I started to get into the book I thought that the papers for it would be pretty easy for me, but I was wrong. They were easy to a point but yet also hard for me since I had never written an analysis type of paper before. I'm good at research papers and backing up my idea's within my paper but this book put me in a stump since it was something that was hard for me to read in the beginning. I'm looking forward to improving my writing skills and learning a lot more about the writing process that works for me. Each person has their own way of writing and understanding, and I'm learning from my classmates and teacher every week. I'm looking forward to putting all of this information that I have gathered this semester into our final project.

  1. Shannyn, I felt the exact same way when it came to the readings for the class as well as the new writings. Its amazing I got the grades I did on them. I'm glad I am not the only one! It's good for us to step out of our comfort zone and learn new techniques in writing. I hope your journey of becoming better and understanding them easier goes well!
