Technology

http://www.u-blog.co/technology

This is not the first class that I have taken online, but it is the first class that I truly enjoyed!! My other classes that I have taken online were, English 101, Math152, this class of course, Pharmacy120, and Pharmacy125. None of my other classes had anything like this class did for technology. Those class were and are pretty straight forward with homework, quizzes, blackboard discussion questions and so forth, but this class was fun online.
Online learning was a lot harder for me the first semester that I did it, which was really this past summer semester, and I did my math and English 101 then along with Introduction to Health Care. For me the English and health care wasn’t too bad online, but my math I really should have done in class. When it comes to math I’m a hand’s on type of person and I like a teacher in front of me teaching me how to do the things that I’m learning. I was able to escape that class with a decent grade, but not at all what I wanted to walk away with had I been in a classroom setting.

The Introduction to Health Care was an easy class for me since it was just reading, doing questions, and writing papers. I do believe though that you should get with that teacher and introduce him to blogger.com. His students would get a lot of use out of it and I think that it would benefit the class a lot more than just blackboard.

A challenge that I had with this class was my time management. I knew what the online aspect would require of me, but at the same time I figured I could handle it in a different way. I didn’t realize that the papers were going to take me longer than normal, that the blog posts and comments might take me longer one week to do than the other week. It was all a juggle to figure out what worked best for me. Since I’m taking a full schedule this semester, I decided that I needed to get my schedule figured out as soon as possible. Once I did that, I feel that I was able to succeed very well in not just this class but all of my classes this semester.

This was the first class to introduce me to blogger.com. It is a fantastic technological tool that I think all English classes should use. As I went into on my final presentation, the blogger was an amazing tool for us. It helped me in so many ways! My last English class had no way of peer editing unless you used the online tutor, but you gave us that chance to have the peer edits which was amazing. Just because it was an online class you still showed us and gave us the ways to make it more workable like an in class setting would be like. I am now going to continue using it just because I can. It’s an amazing aspect of the technology world that I want to keep using so I can share things with my friends and family.

I also liked how you used videos to talk to use throughout the semester and offered to chat with us on Skype if we needed you. Those are great things that I think a lot of teachers need to take advantage of. It’s one thing to e-mail you, call you, or go to your office, but if we can’t make it to your office and would like a face to face Skype is amazing. The videos helped me to understand what you would mean throughout the semester with some of the assignments.

My favorite technology in this class would have to be all of them. You introduced me to so many great things that I will be taking advantage of in the future for all sorts of things! The most recent one that I decided to use was the prezi.com. That was so much better than using a normal PowerPoint and making a video with slides for it. I think that next semester you should let the students know about it in the beginning because it might make a pretty cool introduction video for them.

This was an amazing class for me this semester. I was sort of done with the whole English thing when I signed up but I knew that I had to take it for my degree. I’m very glad that I stuck with it though because it was an amazing experience. Not only did I walk away with feeling more confident in my writing, but also in using technology. I had no idea about the blogger.com, or any of the other things that you showed us. Yes, I had to use their learning videos to get the hang of it all but once I did I fell in love with them! Thank you for this wonderful semester and these amazing tools that I will get to use throughout the rest of my schooling and life.

  1. Hello, I have to agree with you on everything you said. I had attempted to take English 102 before a few years ago and I withdrew because of my schedule, but a big part had to do with the aspect of an online class. I didn't care for posting comments on blackboard discussion. To be honest it was boring and I was expecting the same with this class. I am leaving this class just like you, very happy about the class and thankful for all the amazing technology we were able to learn in it.

  2. This wasn't my first online class either, but it was the first to introduce me to this many technological aspects. It was nice to get used to using some of these tools through a class environment. Now that I now how to use them for school purposes I think I will be able to use them for other purposes as well. I enjoyed the blogging aspect too. At first it took some getting used to but once I got the hang of it I learned to like it. Not only is it one of those things that can be used in future classes, but anytime you need to communicate with people that aren't near you physcially. Overall I will agree that Mrs. Cline introduced us to some valuable new tools. Other online teachers would benefit greatly from utilizing similar online techniques.

  3. Hey,
I really enjoyed this class as well. It was such a different atmosphere that she put us in and I think that is why everyone had so much fun with it. Also the Skype was an amazing idea I do have to agree with you, although I never used it. I'm glad everyone found this class to be fun and refreshing it makes going to school a little more enjoyable knowing you have someone willing to go the extra mile to help.

  4. I also enjoyed the blog. Ithought it was a very creative way to keep in touch with other classmates and get feedback from them. I agree with you on the math class aspect. I think I will do that one in a classroom setting being that I too need it explained in person rather than just reading it from a book. Great Post and good luck in your college career!

  5. Hey, I completely agree with everything you have to say and I felt the same way about online learning this semester. I really enjoyed it and I am enrolled in some classes online next semester. The blog was my favorite part about this class because it was more of a way to express ourselves and get what is on our minds out there into the internet world. Hope you have a great spring semester!
